an unlikely pairing.....

A couple weeks ago I hung out with the son of Jerry Falwell, Jonathan Falwell, who now runs the Thomas Road Baptist mega Church in lynchburg. While Jonathan and I disagree about almost everything in the world it still wasn't such a bad couple of hours. He was very candid and let me just follow him around all morning which made for some telling photos and also some surprises. Here are some moments from the day.....

It was funny because he kept saying he had to make the room clean for his mother..

Who doesn't love a good playoff game?

I had the luck of shooting Lynchburg College's sweet 16 games this weekend. Not only was the light beautiful but the soccer was good and made for some sweet photos. Here are a few from Sat. and Sun. It was a good break from shooting Friday night football in the dark and made me feel that I'm not as bad of a sports shooter as I may think.

New Skatepark

After five years of putzing around Amazement Square put in a skatepark. Of course they were so mad at the paper for giving them a hard time about the delay that they failed to tell us that they were open.

Dignity in Death

Last week...due to my favorite reporters patients the newspaper feel into an amazing story. Apparently when someone dies and there is nobody (and I mean nobody) to claim the body then it falls onto the sheriff of that particular town's shoulders to dispose of the remains. Well last January David Smith, of Altavista, Va., died and nobody ever claimed him. Well last Thursday the Campbell County Sheriff's office spread his ashes at the scatter garden at the Avoca Center....they allowed us to come along. The whole thing takes about two minutes but we decided to make it a slide show anyway.

Jew Food

Believe if or not but Lynchburg, Va. has a Jewish food fair in town...and it's complete with matzo ball soup and kenishes...mmmmmm it was pretty yummy but I still think my grandmother makes better soup. Ben Silver the man above who is juggling the five pots of chicken soup base was laying on pretty thick when he asks me "Now Kim why is it that you haven't come to Sheul (yiddish word for temple)."
