Fashionable Lynchburg

First off....So sorry to Becca M. for not getting this up on my blog before the VITA fashion show...but to make up for it I'll tell my viewers that you can see and BUY all of these garments at Folk in Lynchburg.

Becca is a local fashion designer who co-ownes Cromat, an indie clothing company. I photographed some of their fall line that had the theme of plaid, guns, nascar, and denim. Chicks with guns in the middle of downtown Lynchburg. It was pretty awesome and to my surprise legal.

I should have had this up weeks ago but I've been on vacation or super busy trying to get ready for vacation. So it's been too much work and not enough time to post. Anyway if you go to this in the next couple of days this should be the main story up on Rites of Life but if not you get a twofer and get to see the lastest story. This wedding was fine to cover but my sore feet and back reminded me why I don't shoot weddings. Still I think it turned out pretty good. The two photos show the contrast between to couple. Elijah was solitary as Kristen was surrounded by her bridesmaids

A Hero of Mine

Click Here to view slide show about Mark Cline

One of my heroes in life is a man who makes fiber glass dinosaur sculptures and foam replicas of Stonehenge. His name is Mark Cline a.k.a. "Professor" Cline who I had the opportunity to meet for a story about Natural Bridge, Va. For those of you who don't know the place, it is a haven for kichy roadside attractions. In my opinion it has the best collection around. I've been to Wall Drug, Cosmos Mystery Spot, and many other attractions in the country but I do have to say that Mark Cline's are the best I've seen yet. Dinosaur Kingdom, my personal favorite, is basically animatronic dino's eating Yankee Sol dies who tried to enslave them and use them as "weapons of mass destruction" against the south. I know it sounds too good to be true....but I assure you its real and worth the seven bucks to get in. So for the story "How to see Natural Bridge without seeing the bridge" we got the chance to hang out with Prof Cline for half a day. This was one of the best days at work I've ever had and really confirmed just how great Mark Cline really is. Check out my slide show about him by clicking the link.

"A Buffet on Wheels"

Is what the tour guide said about our wagon that traveled through Safari Park. Anyone who knows me best knows that I'm a huge fan of kitchy roadside attractions. I am not a fan of attractions that poorly treat animals. The Safari park is one of those places. Call me old fashioned but I don't think an American Buffalo should be running around with a Zebra or an ostrich and they sure as hell shouldn't be eating the same feed. I also can't get the image out of my head of people fighting to touch a camel coating in animal poop. While it is an interesting study on American culture I'm in the camp of treating animals with respect and not mistreating them in order to be able to shove buckets of feed in their faces. Enough Said
