St. Patricks Day in SLC

While I wouldn't call Utah a rowdy place for St. Patrick's Day, I would have to say that people do certainly get festive. I wouldn't rank it up their with SPD in Corktown in Detroit, MI I would put it above the lame SPD celebration in Charlotte, NC. Highlight of the day was the herd of 82 Bassett Hounds on the parade route all adorning little green hats. In true Kim Raff fashion I had to step back a minute and realize that, no the paper didn't want 50 pictures of Bassett Hounds wearing hats though I still did manage to slip a few in.

Teen Mom

This is my first multimedia piece for the Trib. Ta'a is a senior in high school, captain of her basketball team and a teen mother. With all the controversy around the Sex Ed bill in Utah, Ta'a's story couldn't have come at a better time. Not only is her story compelling but she was a great person to work with. She opened up her life to us at the paper hoping her story could make a difference in other girl's lives. She has my full respect and I believe her attitude about life will take her and her son far. Enjoy.

Drillin'

So about a month back I photographed a drill team state championship. This assignment was what I would describe as a classic Kim Raff assignment. A combination of elaborate costumes and girl culture, I'm there. I have to say it was a blast. Despite the fact that I was shooting in the worst light ever and my wide angle lens was broken I felt like a made a few nice frames. Also for those of you who believe that drill team girls have no skill or athletic ability, you should have seen the place blow up when seven girls on stilts simultaneously did full splits....It was amazing.
