Vigil

Baby animals and children...yup every newspaper photographer has to do it. A wise editor of mine once said, "puppies sell papers."

State Wrestling

I covered two days of the State Wrestling Championship. Here are few frames.

From winning his fourth state championship

Other Sports

I work a night shift, so by default I shot sports, a lot. I've never really thought I was much of a sports shooter but I guess if you shoot it enough you are bound to get some decent photographs. Here are a few from the last few months.

Weather

The good, the bad and the ugly. I am so happy spring is finally here.

Good.

Bad

Ugly

The Biebs

I have to give it up to Justin Bieber, he put on quite a performance. I have covered many concerts for the Trib but the sound that emits from thousands of prepubescent girls as they see Justin Bieber come out on stage was like nothing I had ever heard before. It's somewhere between the sound of a dental drill and nails scratching on a chalk board. It was terrifying but secretly I love covering stuff like this. The fans of Justin Bieber are kitschy and part of an interesting cultural movement centered around the worship of a boy that sounds like a girl. It's cool, I was there once. I can still sitting floor with the latest issue of Teen Bop cutting out the faces for the shrines of what ever teen idol I was stalking at the time.

Sundance Take Dos

It was another great year at Sundance. I spent most of my time along press row at the red carpet premieres. I witnessed some hilarious moments that included a grown man trying to coax Nicole Kidman to take off her coat for a photograph. I also watched as an on air TV personality and a movie publicist got into a brawl about interviewing Jessica Biel. Read here what I think of publicist.

The movie star gold award this year goes to...........Octavia Spencer. An amazing actress but also a super cool person. On the red carpet she was full of smiles and jokes and actually acted like she was excited for her movie,"Fruitvale" to come out. Her attitude must have paid off because her movie ended up winning the Grand Jury Prize. be on the look out I heard it was amazing.

The sourpuss of the weekend award goes to.......Ellen Page. Who looked like she was sucking on a lemon the whole ten minutes she was on the red carpet. I have to say this was a giant disappointment for me. I kinda always thought in an alternate universe we could have been besties. Geez Ellen sorry that you have to endure 10 minutes of questions and one minute of photographs all in the name of promoting your movie. Would it have killed you to smile...even for 10 seconds.

Here are a few moments from the festival.

This was the infamous interview with Jessica.

Nicole Kidman, maybe the most beautiful women I have ever seen in person.

A drag queen on a bus.

Gotta show some lovin' for JGL.

On Shooting and Skiing

I hadn't skied for 15 years before I moved to Utah a year and a half ago.  I was a fairly good skier at the time but it had been 15 years so I thought I'd be starting from square one. I picked it right up from where I left off, apparently it's like riding a bike.

Now that I had mastered the ability to be on skies and not kill myself as I went down the mountain, I wanted to be able to carry a camera and shoot.  This winter I got my chance and I could hardly believe I was getting paid to ski around and take photographs. It was an awesome day.
