It's been a long time....

So sorry to all the five people that read my blog. Lifes been rather hectic and I haven't had a chance to even do my laundry let alone update my blog. Well I hope all these post keep you so busy that you forgot how long it's been since I've updated. Enjoy!!!

The King of Kindergarten

Here is a great project that I just finished for the paper. Apparently only 4.5 percent of teachers are male in Lynchburg City School, which is actually above the national average. Well the reporter Annie and I found and followed John Babcock, the only male kindergarten teacher in City Schools. He was perfect to work with and made the project a lot of fun. Rite of Life Part 2: Becoming a Little Lady

Here is the second part of my series Rites of Life. This one is about girls getting there ears pierced. In order to get this done Liz and I sat outside of Clair's boutique for a total of 12 hours. I would say that I reach my mall quota for the year and hope I don't have to go in one any time soon. I will tell you if you are interested in the latest styles of mullets and track suits go and people watch at the mall...its a good place to find that. Click on photo to see slide show.

Lynchburg Grows

About a week ago I discovered Lynchburg Grows. This is a local nonprofit that is run out of old rose greenhouses in the middle of the city. Its a pretty remarkable place and is run by some amazing people. The president of the Lynchburg Grows is Derrick, the guy pictured above, he is a real hero and gets around the green house better than I do. Anyway the guy is a saint and organizes programs for all sorts of people in the community he also runs a csa out of it....which I am now a member of.

La Tienda

I was sent out to shoot a business assignment on this market in town. I took one step in the store and fell in love with the place and Peter, the man who owns the store. The store is more than a grocery store that carries asian, african, and hispanic products but they also give english lessons and tax services. It truely is a hub for new immigrants in Lynchburg. I would have love to have spent more time in the store but I just had my hands in to many things right now. Anyway it felt good to give a voice to people that aren't white rich people and often overlooked in our community.
