The Rites of Life: Part 6 Letting Go

click here to go to Rites of Life blog

Well Liz and I are past the halfway point with our Rites of Life project at the paper. I think we were so busy we didn't even realize that we were halfway done.

The story that just came out I think may have been the most powerful. Most mothers feel the empty nest when there kids go away to college but Darlene Palmer is feeling it too. She just let go of her third son and watched as he left for the Marines. All three of her boys have joined and after spending sometime with them I learned what a Marine family is like. This was a great family and working with Darlene, Frank and Ethan was a treat. They have just such great personalities and really allowed us to be a part of their lives. I think that any mother who has gone through the empty nest rite will feel exactly what Darlene is going through.
