I recently got to spend a day in Vernal, Utah out in the oil fields. While I have no desire to ever go to Vernal for anything other than work, it was a great day. I'm thanking the photo gods for some really nice light and also feel lucky to get some good access to the workers. Here are some pictures from the visit.
I am a documentary, editorial and commercial photographer based in Salt Lake City, Utah. After receiving a BFA in visual journalism from Rochester Institute ofTechnology in Rochester, NY I went on to a seven-year career in newspapers, which included staff positions with The Salt Lake Tribune and TheNews & Advance.
I specialize in documentary photojournalism, seeing stories in my own backyard and capturing intimate portraits of the human experience. I love to find beauty in the average moments of life and believe photography has the ability to show us the similarities we all share as people. My craft has draw me into people's living rooms, pulled me onto mountain tops, and humbled me at gravesides; from the Deep South to the American West.
In 2008, while working for The News & Advance, my images from “The Rites of Life” project won a Best in Show Award from the Virginia Press Association. My photographs and multimedia have been recognized by the National Press Photographers Association's Best Of Photojournalism competition, Virginia Associated Press Photos of the Year, Utah Society of Professional Journalists and many other competitions and organizations.
